About Rainbow Tibetan Terriers

Two to three litters a year are bred and born at Rainbow Tibetans. All are house dogs, and are members of our family. All parents are OFA Certified and CERF eye checked. They are champions,and some are Dual Champions.

Rainbow Tibetan Terriers are committed to continuing the improvement of their future health, both of body and spirit. The history of this wonderful breed of dog is awesome. Living with the Llamas in their monasteries in Tibet for over 2000 years. Always alert to the feelings of their humans. When China took over Tibet, in the 1950's, they not only destroyed the monasteries but killed off the dogs. In China, today, dog is considered a delicacy, so we will never know how many Tibetan Terriers were gourmet dinners!!!!! In 1961, in the United States, there were ONLY 50!!!!!!!

Through intelligent breeding, we have grown, and bloodlines are imported from Great Britain and, in our case, Finland. Karamain, Tuula and Pekka Plathan, the breeders of our Dual Champion, Karamain Lama of Rainbow, have over 25 years of no genetic problems behind him. There is a very limited gene pool in the breed, and no way to get more from their homeland. It is our mission to continue to breed the best, and allow wonderful families to own this adorable breed of dog. They are sensitive to our moods, have a long life, just the perfect size and their disposition is totally as human as a dog can get. They love children, love to play, or to lay at your side, regardless of your mood, they are ready to be included in your activity of the moment. I truly believe that the soul of the Tibetan Terrier is a very highly evolved canine soul, and to be lucky enough to own one - well, you have the BEST!
